Chelsea midfielder Jorginho thanks Chelsea manager Frank Lampard for his confidence in him since he took over from Maurizio Sarri last summer.
Lampard spoke out publicly in support of Jorginho, hailed him as a leader and insisted people were wrong to judge the midfielder last season.
“He’s a leader in his personality,” Lampard said in his post-match press conference in November 2019.
“For whatever reasons, people made judgements about him last season but I can only judge what I see in front of me and from pre-season, he’s been one of the leaders in the dressing room and on the pitch.
“He wants to win and to show that in everything you do is so important. He does that, so I’m pleased with him. The young players need to look up to that kind of attitude that he has daily.”
Speaking in the June edition of FourFourTwo magazine, Jorginho thanked Lampard for the public backing: “He’s always spoken very highly of me since he returned to Stamford Bridge, and we started working together,” said the Italy international.
“Honestly, I thank him for the sincerity he showed towards me in public. He didn’t have to do that, and not every manager does it. He’s a legend inside the club, so people listen to what he says.
“From that day, I felt everyone began to look at me with different eyes and really pay attention to what I do; how much I’ve devoted myself to achieving the best I can
